Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib is one of the nine historical Gurdwaras in Delhi. It was first constructed in 1783 as a small shrine by Baghel Singh to commemorate the martyrdom site of the ninth Sikh Guru, Tegh Bahadur and was probably expanded after Indian Rebellion of 1857 or after Partition of India.
Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib. The ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur was beheaded here on 11 November 1675 on the order of Aurangzeb. Before his body could be quartered and exposed to public view, it was stolen under the cover of darkness by one of his disciples, Lakhi Shah Vanjara, who then burnt his house to cremate the Guru's body.
Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib is built at the site in the Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi, where the revered ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur, was beheaded, on Wednesday, November 24, 1675, on the orders of the Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb, for refusing to convert to Islam.
Built in the year 1783 by Baghel Singh, the Sis Ganj Gurudwara is the martyrdom site of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Singh Ji. It is said that when Sikh Guru refused to convert his religion to Islam, Aurangzeb executed him right at this spot.
