  3. Mar 12, 2017 · The name "Gotham City" was first used in Detective Comics #48. (1941) Gotham would start to get more character in the 1970's as Batman's writers and editors began to alter Batman from his more campy appearances in the 60s. In Detective #327 we start seeing more of Batman at night and both Gotham and the Batman take on a much darker tone.

  4. Oct 27, 2017 · It seems pretty clear to me that DC's Gotham City is not supposed to represent a real place. It's far too grim to be somewhere that anyone would live, or businesses would open up in. I know Grant Morrison actually tried to make Gotham more realistic , but the current Tom King run solidifies for me that there's no way Gotham is supposed to be some twisted characterization of New York or something.

This usually means either somewhere else in New York State (e.g. one of the islands), or else somewhere nearby in New Jersey. Metropolis, on the other hand, is a bit of a moving ...

  9. Aug 12, 2014 · Fake Ra's: Gotham's time has come. Like Constantinople or Rome before it the city has become a breeding ground for suffering and injustice. It is beyond saving and must be allowed to die. And later, when Neeson-Ra's is explaining why, exactly, he's going to let Gotham destroy itself, he says:

  10. Feb 13, 2018 · Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller explained this to Entertainment Weekly some time ago:. Gotham is not set in any particular time period: Okay, this has been out there a bit, but Heller had a nice quote elaborating on the show’s timeless quality: “It’s a mash-up, to use the modern phrase,” he said.
