I grew up in Ottawa, where Farm Boy got their start before being bought by Sobey's. I actually worked for one for a while. The big con is price (on the higher-end, comparable in most cases to Metro/Loblaws) and selection: You won't find a million cereals, or 20 different kinds of beans, or most of the "big" name brands.

May 29, 2021 · Farm boy, which I have also only been to a handful of times, on the other hand, feels premium and up market. I believe Farm boy also has more good quality prepared foods, but I’m not 100% sure on that. I think they were just bought by Empire group, which owns Sobeys. I hope It pulls Sobey’s up market, rather than drag Farm boy down market.

I've seen one or two posts here about it and as it is just a few mins away from me I'm curious if it's a good store or just another niche store where things are massively over priced under the guise of being better quality.

It would be especially helpful if you included the farm boy products you use as I will happily try them out. I know they have some cool unique products. Thanks in advance

Dec 1, 2022 · As much as I hate Galen Weston, PC blows farm boy out of the water Spicy kale dip - too salty Tom yum soup - meh Chipotle salsa - more of a marinade then dip Mustards - meh. Apple bbq one is okay Dressing - meh. Mango chutney - trashed it. Horrible Take home pizza made fresh - trash.
A lot of the Farm Boy products are just other brands in Farm Boy packaging. I know chips are Covered Bridge from New Brunswick, the organic milk is repackaged Harmony Brand. You can find a lot of Farm Boy stuff in other stores under the original brand name, but it tends to be cheaper when sold as Farm Boy.
Farm Boy brand olives and pickles: I just bought a jar of their olives with garlic in the middle, brine is quite flavourful. Farm Boy brand sausages: I like the Honey Garlic! Farm Boy brand spices: I like to get the little spice bags for recipes where I only need a small amount of something, especially smoked paprika, as I do Budget Bytes recipes a lot and most recipes of theirs call for this spice.
