The word bootleg refers mainly (if not solely) to alcohol or recordings produced and sold illegally. K.
Jan 13, 2008 · bootleg CD ~ one that's either (a) stolen, or (b) sold to you as genuine when it isn't. pirate CD ~ one that's been deliberately and knowingly illegally reproduced. i.e. bootleg, more emphasis on the way it comes to be in your possession; pirate, more emphasis on how the item is manufactured. All counterfeits are bootlegs in that they are illegal pressings, except a counterfeit is a pressing that sets out to look like the original, often in an attempt to pass it off as such, whereas the more general term bootleg refers to any illegal pressing of a track. 1.

I've been collecting and buying Northern now since 1973/74 and must have had at least 100,000 records pass through my hands but I've never seen this before, or even seen a picture of it. The fact that it's terrible doesn't come into it. I think this is an early Simon job circa 74 which possibly never got released or circulated.

I have an issue on the dark maroon label which I always thought was an original but according to Manship it aint. Just got a white demo which he says is orig but it looks more like a boot than my issue.
