Prof. Anurag Kumar (B.Tech (1977) IIT Kanpur, PhD (1981) Cornell Univ.) was a Member of Technical Staff in AT&T Bell Laboratories (1981-1988), before returning to India and joining the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) as a faculty member in the ECE Department.
Anurag Kumar was the Director of the Indian Institute of Science at Bangalore, India from 2014–2020. He is a professor at the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering, and has served as the Chairperson of the Electrical Sciences Division at the Indian Institute of Science, before being appointed as the Director in 2014.
Anurag Kumar obtained his B.Tech. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur in 1977, and was awarded the President of India’s Gold Medal. He then obtained the PhD degree from Cornell University (1981), where he worked under the guidance of Prof. T.L. Fine.
1. RESEARCH GUIDANCE: supervision. Six of the Ph.D. theses have won best thesis medals at IISc: Alumni Medal (1996), Seshagiri Kaikini Medals (1996, 1997, 2000, Over 55 M.E. or M.Tech. projects supervised. PUBLICATIONS: Books and Papers: 81 journal papers, 122 refereed conference proceedings papers.

Anurag Kumar (S'81–M'81–SM'92–F'06) received the B. Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India, in 1977, and the Ph.D. degree from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, in 1981, both in electrical engineering. He was then with Bell Laboratories, Holmdel, NJ, for over six years.
Prof. Anurag Kumar, a distinguished figure in Electrical Communication Engineering, served as the Director of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru from 2014 to 2020. With a BTech degree from IIT Kanpur and a PhD from Cornell University, he joined IISc in 1988.
