Ann Ronell (née Rosenblatt; December 25, 1905 – December 25, 1993) was an American composer and lyricist. She was best known for the standards "Willow Weep for Me" (1932) and "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" (1933).
Ann Ronell was a composer, lyricist, and pianist who wrote for film and Tin Pan Alley. She was mentored by George Gershwin and composed "Willow Weep for Me", a jazz standard with over 800 recordings.
The singer asks of the willow tree, “weep for me,” “bend your branches,” “whisper to the wind,” and “murmur to the night.”. Within the second “A” section there’s a wisp of a clue as to the cause of the melancholy: “Gone my lover’s dream, lovely summer’s dream.”.
