Feb 4, 2014 · The drum patterns and synths on that, Lifted and That's So Us, the whistle hook on Paper Love, all elements that feel dated now, like they squarely belong to a mid '10s sound that in truth didn't age especially well for anyone, not just Allie X. I think her music at the start, at least before Super Sunset, was quite of the moment, and the moment passed.

I stuck to the end of the queue the other week in Chicago—they let the last 10 or so people know we’d only have time for a quick exchange and a photo, but only because she’d been so generous with her time for the first 90-ish people in line. Go early and you’d have plenty of time to chat with her, I’d say!

I would also compare it to Blackout in the sense that at any moment it feels like the songs/album could fall apart into pieces and the listener is left scrambling to pick those pieces back up and stick it back together. Thankfully Allie does that work for us with brilliant production and lyricism.
