"A Simple Life" is a beautiful movie about real life, love and humanity. The story is about again domestic housekeeper Ah Tao (played by Deannie Yip) who has been taking care of the same family for 60 years, and as Roger (played by Andy Lau) returns from USA, roles become switched as Ah Tao suffers a stroke and has to move into a nursing home.
At least two elderly characters are seen being taken to the hospital, with the assumption that they died. Caregivers treat patients brusquely. Some elderly men and women appear toothless or handicapped in ways that might be scary to young children.
Emily and Stephanie become fast friends, arranging play dates for the boys. Emily is flamboyant and every possession in her life has an adventurous story behind it. While Stephanie is a plain and simple housewife, and lives for the sake of her son. Stephanie's husband died in a car accident and her brother Chris was in the passenger seat.
