Aug 23, 2016 · Try converting the video to .wmv format instead. Likewise convert any problem audio to .wma. Those are the two main formats that Windows Movie Maker 6.0 prefers. Another option is to just keep your projects short; have a separate project for each block of about 15 minutes (or scenes that are that length or shorter).

If you are still interested in using a "classic" version of Movie Maker, I would suggest using Windows Movie Maker 6.0 instead of the older CPU-only WMM 2.6. It has the same traditional timeline as 2.6 so you should have no problems using it but it is designed to use your GPU and takes advantage of 64-bit CPUs.
