Sep 8, 2006 · Since VLC supports many images formats (JPG, PNG, etc), it would be nice if it could support HEIC/HEIF image format (defined as Part 12 within the MPEG-H media suite ISO/IEC 23008-12) as well. I guess it shouldn't be that hard considering the header is some kind of modified MP4 container (ftypmif1, mif1heic) and the codec being used is HEVC.
When I convert a video file, I find I need to use 1500-1800 kb/s bitrate, x264 "veryslow" preset, "fastdecoding" tuning selection, and "main" profile within the input/codecs to get at least a 99% identical quality for a higher disk-size. e.g: A 2 hour long movie will be 1.1GB. The converted with these settings will be 1.58-1.7GB.

Sep 5, 2012 · I generally use the Effects and Filters option to change the visuals on the videos I watch and up until today they always just automatically saved. Unfortunately, this has changed for absolutely no reason today, and the effects I set will only last on the video I am watching, but if I forward to a new video, say in a playlist the changes turn off.
Sep 18, 2021 · it's this plugin audio_output\libmmdevice_plugin.dll that crash on vlc startup. I deleted that file and now vlc start normally

Note: the plugin needs to be enabled in TWO places within the VLC's settings once you've placed the .dll in VLC's video_filter directory (steps 3 and 4 under 'usage instructions'). . .
Oct 2, 2022 · I've tried: 1) restarting my computer & restarting VLC. 2) erasing VLC's ini file (vlc-qt-interface.ini) under my user profile, and then restarting my computer, and restarting VLC. No luck. and. 3) finally uninstalling VLC completely, restarting the computer, reinstalling VLC, and restarting the computer again. Still no luck.
