Thomas Kyd (1558-1594) was an English playwright and one of the most important figures in the development of Elizabethan drama. He is best known for his tragedy The Spanish Tragedy, which was very popular in his own time and influenced European drama.
Thomas Kyd was an English dramatist who, with his The Spanish Tragedy (sometimes called Hieronimo, or Jeronimo, after its protagonist), initiated the revenge tragedy of his day. Kyd anticipated the structure of many later plays, including the development of middle and final climaxes.
