  1. All three are so-called "meta-algorithms": approaches to combine several machine learning techniques into one predictive model in order to decrease the variance (bagging), bias (boosting) or improving the predictive force (stacking alias ensemble). Every algorithm consists of two steps:

  2. Jul 10, 2017 · I use the term Holdout Stacking to differentiate from regular Stacking (or "Super Learning") where you generate cross-validated predicted values from the base learners to generate the training data for the metalearner algorithm (in your case, a Random Forest) rather than a holdout set (your testing frame).

  3. Jun 12, 2018 · I learned Stacking used in Ensemble learning. In Stacking, training data is split into two sets. The first set is used for training each model (layer-1, left figure), the second one is used for training of combiner of predictions (layer-2, right figure). In my project, I have two different multi-classification models.

  4. Mar 30, 2017 · I'm trying model stacking in a kaggle competition. However, what the competition is trying to do is irrelevant. I think my approach of doing model stacking is not correct. I have 4 different models: xgboost model with dense features (numbers, that can be ordered).

  5. Aug 3, 2016 · Stacking ensembles are usually heterogeneous ensembles that use learners of different types. In order for ensemble methods to be more accurate than any of its individual members the base learners have to be as accurate as possible and as diverse as possible.

  6. Jul 14, 2016 · The situation is similar when adding new base classifiers to a stacking setup, because the base classifiers' outputs are features for the final classifier. All the same arguments from above hold here.

  7. Aug 4, 2021 · In practice, you might either have a super-set of inputs that then can be fed into all models (that in a way feels neater), or you have a separate training (and validation & test) data derivation for each model (quite common e.g. when in a team in a machine learning competition several team members write their own code and then ensembling is done on top of that - unless runtime becomes an issue it is usually not worth it to refactor the different codebases into a unified one).

  8. Apr 6, 2022 · In the top answer on this post: What are the advantages of stacking multiple LSTMs? the idea of stacking LSTMs vertically is distinguished from stacking them horizontally. I quite don't understand what this means. When I think of stacking LSTMs, I think of having the output of one LSTM layer going into another LSTM layer.

  9. Mar 4, 2020 · Stacking strong learners is probably one of the most popular strategies used on Kaggle competitions. On another hand, people rarely use it on production because the cost is high and usually the gain in performance is not that big comparably to either stacking weak learners, or using single strong learner.

  10. Oct 10, 2016 · $\begingroup$ Notice that option 2 is nearly equivalent to 4-fold cross-validating the black-boxed "3-fold stacking classifier" (the only difference is that the three folds are set to align with the four folds in the outer cross-validation), so indeed it shouldn't have target leakage. $\endgroup$
