The 70th Aradhana Mahotsava of the renowned Jivanmukta and the 34th Jagadguru Shankaracharya of the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham, Ananta-Sri Vibhushita Chandrashekhara Bharati Mahaswamiji, was reverentially observed today, on the Mahalaya Amavasya day.

The Peetham is the first and foremost of the four Peethams established by the renowned 8th century philosopher saint Sri Adi Shankara, the principal exponent of Advaita (non-dualism). The Divinity of Knowledge, Goddess Sharada, installed at Sringeri by Sri Adi Shankara, graces the Peetham as the presiding deity.
Aksharabhyasa or Vidyarambha facility is one of the Sevas performed at Sri Sharada Temple in Sringeri. Days for performing Aksharabhyasa Vijaya Dasami, Lalita Panchami, Akshaya Triteeya, as well as days such as Thursdays and/or Moola Nakshatra day (provided these do not fall on Amavasya Tithi) are considered auspicious for performing Aksharabhyasa.

The ancient temple of Sri Sharada, the presiding deity of Sringeri has a glorious history that begins with the setting up of the Dakshinamnaya Peetham by Sri Shankara Bhagavatpada. Originally it was an unpretentious shrine with the Murti of Sharada made of sandalwood, installed over the Sri Chakra that Sri Adi Shankara carved on a rock.
