So i offset a plan created the square and extruded into the side of the cylinder. the problem is the square is FLAT on the plan and extruses flat into the cylinder which makes the recess uneven. Set the option "height and pitch" and set values from thread definition. I would recommend you to start coil from parallel plane to face of cylinder in distance height of thread groove. This makes the end of coil realistic.
