Real time navigation is prohibited for any provider that doesn’t store their map data in Korea on Korean servers and give the government access to it. Google doesn’t comply so Google maps can’t be used for real-time navigation. It does work and has relatively accurate maps that are just maps.

Jul 30, 2022 · Korea has limited google in implementation of maps in korea. Even apple. Being a country still in a wartime situation maps have sensitivity issues. Also korea tries to protect domestic companies. So naver and kakao will have better maps, tho their english integration wont be as smooth. Google legally can’t provide real time navigation in Korea. That’s why it doesn’t offer walking or driving directions. It’s limited to transit information from a 3rd party korean source and that can be outdated and inaccurate depending on the real time information. You have been lucky.
That is why the portion of South Korea in Google Maps works and looks differently, because Google has to rely on third parties for that part. It may have to do with the restrictions South Korea has on Google Maps. Nov 7, 2019 · Google maps is the only thing that is essentially just not updated ever because the local competitors have a intra monopoly on that service. This is a common thing in Korea where local companies use the law to keep big international companies out and only allow made in Korea services.
