Bij Rot 1 wordt een A een B, een B een C etc. In geocaching wordt ROT13 veel gebruikt, bv. bij de versleuteling van hints. Bij cijfers kun je ook eenzelfde verschuiving gebruiken. Alle cijfers worden dan bv. 5 hoger.

Ok, I haven't used purplehell.com in several months and today I wanted to give someone several progressively more revealing hints in one e-mail so I was wanting to ROT13 them (so he can decode them one at a time.) Anyway I of course went to Purplehell.com and found that the website is down and I'm on one of those redirecting pages.

Feb 26, 2002 · It was a 5 stage multi-cache that used Playfair, Vigenere, ROT13 and codes that could be solved in the field with pencil and paper. The last stage was encrypted with Enigma, the WWII German rotor cipher. The Enigma stage required a computer simulator. The first three finders of the final stage got nifty prizes.

Aug 26, 2006 · The hints on the cache listings use the most common form of this, called ROT13 because it shifts or rotates individual letters by 13 places. A becomes N, B becomes O, and so on. The nice thing about ROT13 is that since 13 is half of 26 - the number of letters in the alphabet - the exact same algorithm can be used to both encode and decode a message.
