Vaishali Rameshbabu (born 21 June 2001) is an Indian chess grandmaster. [1] [2] Vaishali and Praggnanandhaa are the first brother and sister to earn GM titles. They are also the first brother and sister to qualify for the Candidates Tournament. [3]
Jun 21, 2001 · Vaishali is the older sister of GM Praggnanandhaa R. She won the 2023 FIDE Women's Grand Swiss with an 8.5/11 score, thus qualifying for the 2024 Candidates months after her brother did so at the 2023 FIDE World Cup.
R. Vaishali is an Indian chess player. She holds the FIDE titles of International Master (IM) and Woman Grandmaster (WGM). The noted Indian Chess Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa is her younger brother. In 2012, R Vaishali won the Under-12 Girls’ World Youth Chess Championship organised in Maribor, Slovenia.

Dec 2, 2023 · IM Vaishali R became the third Indian woman to earn the Grandmaster title on Friday 1st December 2023. She also became Inda's 84th Grandmaster by scoring a win against FM Tamer Tarik Selbes at 4th Elllobregat Open 2023.

Jan 9, 2024 · R Vaishali became the third Indian woman to achieve the Grandmaster title. She ended the 12-year-long wait for an Indian female to earn the highest title one can achieve in chess. Before fulfilling the GM title requirements, she won the FIDE Women's Grand Swiss 2023 and earned herself a spot in the FIDE Women's Candidates 2024.
Aug 9, 2021 · On 4th of August 2021, 20-year-old Vaishali scored her final norm at the Biel Masters Open 2021 and became the 10th female player of India to achieve the IM title. While growing up, Vaishali was one of the biggest talents in Indian chess winning two World Youth Gold medals.
Vaishali and Praggnanandhaa are now one of the strongest couples of chess siblings in the world, together with the Muzychuk sisters and the Van Forest brothers. They were both part of the Indian team that won the Online Olympiad in 2020.
