Dec 16, 2022 · You're absolutely correct, players with personal capes get found and harassed just like all rare cape owners do, usually between the rarities of Minecon capes -> Special capes -> Mojang capes -> Personal 1-1 capes with the severity of how far this "OG Names" community goes to harass the person getting worse as it gets rarer.
NameMC will never be 100% accurate; the site requires you to cache, or search up, an account with a cape equipped for NameMC to actually acknowledge that the account has said cape. I’m certain there are many more accounts with the cape which NameMC simply hasn’t cached.

Feb 21, 2020 · Asking for your account to be hidden or for your capes to be removed/hidden is met by silence by NameMC support. Their FAQs claim Mojang intend for username history to be hidden which is perfectly fine, but allowing people to search by accounts that own a certain cape makes it incredibly easy to find accounts that are worth plenty of money to the right people.
Jan 29, 2024 · Meaning that all the people who got their cherry cape that didn't get searched by anyone on namemc are not counted in the 156,466 cherry capes count. To prove my point, check every day you will notice that the number keeps growing, yet the cherry cape was only given to people who participated to the last mob vote.
May 3, 2021 · in namemc you can hide your cape or show it, maybe some people had it hidden, to get them you have to attend the minecon events and every year these events have different designs and the previous years' capes are no longer possible to get them.

Capes on Java have also been moved between accounts when compromised (before Migration) with the translator capes (and other Mojang contributor program capes), as well as the Valentine cape leak where a dev added that cape by accident instead of the Vanilla cape manually to a player and seen on NameMC.
