Sep 4, 2020 · Story: The movie doesn't flow, almost every scene feels wasted. They added a bunch of references to the original Mulan but none of the context as to what made those scenes relatable. The villains never feel threatening because we know mulan has magic ninja kung fu powers. The main villain is completely undeveloped and so was the witch.

Full disclosure, I grew with the movie on VHS and while there are flaws, it's a feminist movie that succeeds in creating a well-developed female character without making the other male characters look like total idiots. You are absolutely right about Shan-Yu, the villain. He was a weak villain.

Mar 28, 2020 · I love Mulan. Sure, some of the cultural things are clunky in their delivery but when it hits its peak, it is Disney at its best. It's their epic war movie but still with jokes and songs to keep the mood light. I still remember being a small kid in the cinema, watching that scene where the Hun army come charging down the mountainside.
