It lies on the flat alluvial plain of the Indus, about 50 miles (80 km) southwest of Sukkur. The site contains the remnants of one of two main centres of the ancient Indus civilization (c. 2500–1700 bce), the other one being Harappa, some 400 miles (640 km) to the northwest in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

Dec 13, 2014 · The western mound at Harappa stands only slightly higher than those at Mohenjo-daro, which has a much higher Western or “main” mound. The Citadel area has a huge mud brick platform which is 6m high and underlies all the construction.
