Back in in 1998, when W3Schools was founded, "W3" was a common an acronym for "World Wide Web" - especially for non-English speakers, like the Norwegians who started W3Schools. The idea that they were SEO hijacking in 1998 against the then 2 year old W3C site is silly.

Another alrernative is to use httrack, the open source website mirroring tool, to download specific documentation not provided by Kapeli, such as the doc for the HTTP protocol or Web API's.

It seems like they suggest to first learn the basics of each of the different aspects of web development. After that, there doesn't seem to be any laid out path; however, there's a lot more lessons on each of these subjects to learn more.

Mozilla web docs is too good :) I just found this so sweet lol, I love that they don't assume any skill level at all, it must feel amazing for someone that isn't tech-savvy. It is, MDN Web Docs is hands down the best dev resource on the internet.
Aug 13, 2022 · Learn "enough" to be able to navigate the frameworks it's built with. Its literally one of the best resources to learn web development. I use it almost daily. I'm not a web guy but MDN is always useful. I have seen this web site recommended here too: https://javascript.info/ . Its the best and number 1 to learn js.
May 11, 2024 · MDN is an excellent reference, Odin is an excellent tutorial. The Odin Project themselves will very often tell you to go read the MDN docs on a certain topic. MDN also has a tutorial-style section, but I haven't tried it myself. Yes, different purposes.

It also doesn't encompass everything there is to know about web development. So no, it's not enough completely by itself. Most of the valuable information out there is in text though, so YouTube/Coursera are not a requirement.

May 13, 2020 · MDN is the best resource for all web development. That said, it is more of a reference than tutorials, but you can definitely find tutorials there. If you're a beginner you might try something that walks you through learning a bit more naturally. See the FAQ for ideas. I use it constantly.
