Dec 4, 2017 · Windows 10 Photos application compress images. I've done minimal crops with the application and I notice that on some of the JPG files the app compress the file size by 70%. Before: file size was 4.5MB with 3024X2005 pixels. After: file size is 1.5MB with 3011X2004 pixels . Do you familiar with this?

Apr 24, 2012 · Try using a tool such as Paint .NET (www.getpaint.net), then in the "Save As" dialog, select the "jpg" file format option, then in the "Save Configuration" dialog, decrease the image quality slider. This will make the image smaller in size, but with less quality. I have a picture that is 1.54 MB.

In older versions of paint this was possible by simply opening the image file in paint and then saving it again under a different file name. In the new version, this does not happen and instead this technique increases the size of the JPEG file.
