Founded by the then-deputy speaker of West Bengal, Sri Haridas Mitra, the college is today governed by abled hands. At present under the able leadership of Dr. Swagata DasMohanta, Hon’ble Principal, the College is trying to reach the peak of development in every aspect.
About the Department: Literature has always been an entrée into the larger world beyond it. It is that vantage point which instigates an enquiry into the social, political, historical, philosophical and the psychological dimensions surrounding us.
Games and Sports. Every year, the college hosts its Annual Sports event, which involves active participation of students. In addition, students also participate in many Inter-College and Inter-University sports competitions and have won numerous prizes.

Department of Bengali was established in 1972 from the very initial stage of Chakdaha College. Honours course of the Dept. started in 1991. There are three fulltime, two contractual fulltime and one part time posts in our Department sanctioned by the Govt. of West Bengal.
The Department of Zoology, Chakdaha College, started imparting teaching of B.Sc. General Course from 1993 and B.Sc. Honours course in Zoology from 2000. The Department of Geography, Chakdaha College, Chakdaha, was established in the year 1997. Initially, the Department only offered General Course in Geography. In 2011, the Department started offering an Honours course in Geography under the University of Kalyani.
The Commerce Department of Chakdaha College was established in the year of 1972, which initially offered a two-year-long B.Com Pass course until it got the affiliation to provide a B.Com Honours course of the duration of 3 years in the year of 1981.
