I finished BBA degree and haven't done all the prerequisites accounting units, so have to do some of the foundations units before enrolling into the CA program. It's online based and done through Deakin University.

CPA is not on the same level as CA, but it's mainly due to the employer more than the designation itself. having a CA working in bob's accounting firm doesn't really hold a candle to working in a much larger and reputable organisation, with or without a CA/CPA even. accept that.   4. 2. I think an accounting degree (even if you never go onto get your CA / CPA) is a great foundation for a career. A finance degree won't open accounting doors for you. An accounting degree will open most of the finance doors for you. User #721199 46 posts.

  5. Sem 1: Tax Sem 2: E&G Sem 3: SMA & FR Sem 4: GSL & Audit. The reason for this is Tax and E&G are killers. However, E&G is related to GSL, which is a unit you will need plenty of help with. Also, no matter what you do, try to do SMA before GSL, as there's a lot of material that both units share.

  6. Alternative similar courses are the foundation programs offered by both CPA and CA. Also depending on when you did your previous degree doing a Bachelors course of some kind and try to get as much credit as possible for electives etc, this often works out significantly cheaper and depending on credit similar in time, or not much longer.

  8. Was just wondering if anyone could provide any insight on switching between service lines in Big 4 Accounting Firms after a few years (and CA completion). In particular, switching from Tax to CorpFin (Transaction Services, TAS, etc). A little background to my question. I have vacation placement at all the big 4 in Tax, and Private Enterprise.

I know people who are in Junior/Graduate/Assistant Accountant roles supervised by a CA/CPA, who were turned down for any prior experience at all This is what l need to know – real life experiences. lt seems from their webpage that you can get 6 months of supervised hours (840 towards the 5040 hours needed) for doing 1400 hours (840/0.6) of unsupervised work in bookkeeping, acc rec, acc pay, payroll.

  10. 1) Finance jobs are a lot harder to land than accounting. To even consider a career in finance you need to be confident, good communicator, intelligent etc. to even land the job in the first place. In the current climate D average is the minimum.
