Siege of Bahadur Benda. Tipu Sultan ( Sultan Fateh Ali Sahab Tipu; 1 December 1751 – 4 May 1799), commonly referred to as Sher-e-Mysore or "Tiger of Mysore", [2] [3] was the Indian Muslim ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore based in South India. [4] He was a pioneer of rocket artillery.

He was born to Hyder Ali, who rose through the ranks of the army of the Wodeyars, the then Hindu rulers of Mysore. Hyder Ali ceased power in 1761 with Tipu succeeding his father in 1782.
