Jan 24, 2005 · Coastal Redwood as Giant Sequoia seeds. are much tougher to germinate. The same precautions for a zone 5 will apply. for a zone 6. Moving to a higher elevation. will not necessarily help a Coastal Redwood. much at all in a cool growing zone but more. likely will hurt it more often than not. Jim.
Jun 8, 2008 · Bainbridge Island, WA. I recently purchased a house built next to a giant sequoia. The tree is perhaps 35 years old, with a trunk 5 feet in diameter. I am told they grow quite rapidly in the Puget Sound area. The house was built 7 years ago and is only 10 feet from the tree. Apparently there were sentimental reasons for this.
Oct 25, 2004 · Sequoias need special food which you can buy online. They need to be kept in moist rich soil and never allowed to dry out, they do best if grown indoors until they are a bit bigger. There is a nursery in California Sierra Nevada Mountains that grow and study the Sequoia and they raise the seedlings.
Feb 4, 2010 · Total wood volume would have been over 60,000 cubic feet, quite a bit bigger than General Sherman giant sequoia (52,000 cubic feet). A log by log acount published early in the century, showed over 20' diameter at dbh, and a remarkable 15' diameter at 200' high. Total height 308' tall.
I have a 60-70' sequoia in my front yard, lifting up parts of the concrete driveway & sidewalk. We want to cut out the lifted part of the driveway to re-pour new cement. Undoubtedly it will expose roots within 3 feet of the tree. Do you think it would be okay to 'grind' down some of the exposed root so that it doesn't protrude through the newly ...
Aug 21, 2008 · Britain zone 8/9. All the tallest trees are evergreen: Sequoia sempervirens: 115m. Pseudotsuga menziesii: 99m. Eucalyptus regnans: 97m. Picea sitchensis: 96m. Sequoiadendron giganteum: 95m. Presumably because the equable conditions that allow for really tall growth also allow for easy all-year leaf retention.
Jan 24, 2005 · They thrive on summer irrigation water in a stony , well drained soil. Minimum winter temperature has been below -20C a number of times. Also have a “Hazel Smith”. beautiful columnar tree with a bluish cast. About 30 ft. Would concur that Sequoiadendron likes low humidities and generous summer water.

There are many that don't grow in to giants and also have flowers. Most gums are fast growing and donot need massive amounts of water. Liz.

Last summer we took out a hedge that was under and around it (see pic) and added some soil and plantings. Initially, she seemed VERY happy and dropped significantly less needles and cones.
