Sep 1, 2012 · Go to image>adjustment>brightness/contrast and increase the brightness all the way. Then repeat this and increase till you have the approximate value you want. Try cloning on to a separate layer and moving/transforming small areas until things line up. once you get the edges lined up, come back and clean up.

If you just want to save one area as an image, you could resize it as described above, crop it, save as, then undo the steps on your original. That's what I'd do, but I don't know why I'd do it.
