In addition to all the other answers, you can simply open your file in Microsoft Word (on Windows: Right click your pdf file → Open with → Word) then select the text to find out which font size is being used. (Word is not free but is popular enough that many people will already have it installed on their computer.)
Aug 9, 2012 · Though bear in mind: Some documents with custom fonts are made as PDFs just for the purpose that those fonts should not be available to everybody. Meaning they are copyrighted to their respective owner. Which in turn means if you plan to use said copyrighted font you can get in a lot of trouble. Yes, not every font is free.

Jul 27, 2017 · Same problem with strange "alien league" font being displayed in random pdf files. I had to rename the file "alien5.ttf" (to "alien5.ttf.problem" ) using admin privileges in the \windows\font directory and then reboot. I could not figure out how to remove the font using normal windows tools.
Extract the *.zip file to some directory and locate the various *.exe utilities contained therein. Now, to show all fonts used on page 22 of a document, run: pdffonts.exe -f 22 -l 22 c:\path\to\some\pdf.pdf. To see all fonts used in the complete document, just run: pdffonts.exe c:\path\to\some\pdf.pdf.
Nov 28, 2020 · How to know which fonts are used in selected part of a PDF document. Open the PDF in Firefox, right click on the content and select "Inspect (Q). Under the "Inspector" tab, do a search for the string of interest. When you find it, look to the right for info on font size...you may need to move the cursor up a line or so in the left window...
I created a document in MS Word (2007) and then published to PDF with the intention of creating a document that looks the same regardless of platform or pdf reader choice. It looks fine on a couple of windows machines, but when I open it in ubuntu (using acroread) the original font, arial, gets replaced with some ridiculous frilly font that is totally inappropriate.

Then, run it against your PDF file to get a first overview of all the fonts used: pdffonts.exe d:\path\to\your.pdf. Now we want to see which fonts are on pages 11-13: pdffonts.exe -f 11 -l 13 d:\path\to\your.pdf.

When I try to copy the text to Word, I am seeing different kind of character. Where can I download the above mentioned fonts?
0. this might be old but characters encoding issues in compound path pdf are still an issue today I solved by. open unsearchable text file with illustrator. Save a Copy as pdf with preset Smallest File Size. then open file with acrobat. Scan & OCR > Recognize Text with your settings. now search ⌘ + f should work.
