  1. May 27, 2013 · Netflow mirrors all traffic, and places a load on the CPU when utilised. SFlow is a packet sampling technology where the switch captures every 100th packet (configurable) per interface and sends it off to the collector. sFlow is built into the ASIC, and places minimal load on the CPU. Netflow supported by Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel Lucent, Huawei ...

  2. May 14, 2020 · 1. I tried googling, but didn't find a good article explaining this. What roughly i understand it, advertising route from one vrf table to other. What type of routes (static, connected, dynamic routes) can be leaked from one vrf to another ? And why do we need route leaking? routing. route. redistribution.

  3. Mar 6, 2016 · A segment is a collision domain or, technically speaking, a portion of a network where connected devices use the same physical layer. So, for instance, the cat5 wire that connects a switchport with a PC is a segment, and if 2 switchports of 2 different switches are connected to an old hub in which a common IP subnet is assigned, these 2 ports are on the same segment, etc.

  4. The feature allows a network switch to listen in on the IGMP conversation between hosts and routers. By listening to these conversations the switch maintains a map of which links need which IP multicast streams. Multicasts may be filtered from the links which do not need them and thus controls which ports receive specific multicast traffic.

  5. 2. MTU is maximum IP packet size of a given link. MSS is Maximum TCP segment size. MTU is used for fragmentation i.e packet larger than MTU is fragmented. But in case of MSS, packet larger than MSS is discarded. MSS is specified during TCP handshake basically in SYN and its value can't be changed after the connection is established.

  6. Dec 21, 2018 · 1. When packet is being L2 switched, it cannot ever hit loopback interface, as it is L3 interface which is not facing any L2 network. Imagine SVI/VLAN interface as virtual router where all L2 interface with that VLAN tag are physically wired to. For L2 packet to reach loopback interface, it must first hit interface between L2 and L3 before it ...

  7. The Gratuitous ARP is sent as a broadcast frame, as a way for a node to announce or update its IP to MAC mapping to the entire network. An ARP Packet contains an "Opcode" field which indicates whether the packet is a request or a response. In the Gratuitous ARP, the Opcode field is set to 2, which indicate a Response: There are many use cases ...

  8. I'm a student of electronics and get lessons in networking as well. But on one of my tests I got the question: What subnet mask is indicated by the network address 172.16.4.8/18? I know the answer is 255.255.192.0 but I don't understand why the answer must be 255.255.192.0 and how to calculate the subnet mask? Also what does the /18 mean?

  10. May 15, 2017 · 1. Network: set as Gateway, Router mode would not allow internet response. I was hoping some combination of DHCP Relay, Router mode and enabling Dynamic Routing (RIP) would allow me communication from the 1st subnet into the second and retain internet access from inside the 2nd subnet. I do plan on bridging this modem eventually but wanted to ...
