It starts out fairly exciting, but it turns into an endless menagerie of typical psychological anime bullshitting that pretends to be meaningful and significant, yet ultimately says patently obvious things and never imparts any meaning at all.

Monster is a really slow burn and is 74 episodes which may be daunting for some because of the slow burn. It was for me at first, and I read the manga beforehand. So I'm just giving my honest, and thought out opinion. Not telling them to do one over the other. Monster is soooo good, once you’re invested.

Apr 29, 2023 · Johan wanted to make tenma shoot him to prove that everyone can be a monster, while tenma feels all life is equally valuable. This is a pretty barebones explanation. Much like the Poppe book about Johan giving the mirror to the god and even the god sees a monster in the mirror.
The anime is 74 episodes long and the manga is 18 vols long. I started with the anime first but I prefer the manga as I could pace myself. But the anime did a very good job of the manga. I'd say anime, cause its rare to get an adaptation as good as Monster's.
