The full form of ICDS is the Integrated Child Development Services. ICDS is a government organisation in India that serves food, preschool, primary education and healthcare, health check-up, immunisation, and referral facilities for children under 6 and their mothers.
The Integrated Child Development Services Scheme was started in Karnataka on 2nd October 1975 with a pilot project at T.Narasipura in Mysore District with just 100 Anganwadi Centres. Since then, the programme has expanded to all the revenue taluks in the state.
Launched with two ICDS Projects, viz., Manbazar of Purulia and Khiddirpur in Kolkata, at present all the Blocks, Municipalities and Corporations of West Bengal have subsequently been brought under ICDS fold. It aims at the holistic development of the child and empowerment of the mother.
