You could also try using a lossless compression method (doesn't reduce quality) such as zip to make your file size smaller, however there will be a limit on how small you will be able to get your file.

Before: file size was 4.5MB with 3024X2005 pixels. After: file size is 1.5MB with 3011X2004 pixels . Do you familiar with this?

In PowerPoint for Mac, you can choose File>Compress Pictures and set Picture Quality to High Fidelity (Maximum ppi). This has exactly the same effect as setting the analogous option in PowerPoint for Windows.
