About Diphu Campus. Assam University, Silchar, Assam was established by an Act of Parliament promulgated in 1989 (Act 13) and enforced by a notification of the Government of India on 21st January 1994.

In Assam, only two state universities i.e., Gauhati University and Dibrugarh University have started regular courses in library and information science till 2009. However, there are various centers in Assam set up by different universities for LIS education to study in distance mode.
Departmental Profile. The Department of Law under the School of Social Sciences started functioning in July 2004. The department offers a five-year integrated course leading to the degree of B.A. LL.B. (Hons.). In the year 2011, an LL.M. Programme has been started in the department.
Department of Agricultural Engineering. The Department of Agricultural Engineering (established in 2006) offers the courses that deal with the application of engineering principles and scientific technologies for sustainable food production, and all along the food production to consumption chain.
