Sukumar Ray FRPS ( Sukumār Rāẏ ⓘ; 30 October 1887 – 10 September 1923) [3] was a Bengali writer and poet from British Bengal. He is remembered mainly for his writings for children. He was the son of children's story writer Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury and the father of Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray .

One of six siblings, he displayed signs of his creative genius early in life. His first poem “Nodi” or “River” was published in the magazine Mukul when he was barely eight years old.
