Welcome to RGS Guildford, a dynamic and happy independent day school for boys aged from 11 to 18. We are proud to be a part of the local community. Located in the heart of Guildford, the senior school is central to the vibrant life in the town, with our prep school located just half a mile away in the leafy residential streets.
This section gives you lots of information about our admissions process: find out about our open days, how to join the School, key dates, details about our entrance assessment, and how to apply for assistance with fees.
The fees are payable in advance on, or before, the first day of term and include the cost of most stationery and textbooks, games and school societies, but exclude a small number of items, for example public examination and UCAS entry fees. Individual music tuition is provided at an extra charge.
With the rents they were to provide a free grammar school in Guildford. The architectural heart of the School has remained unchanged for nearly 500 years: an outstanding Tudor school house at the top of the High Street continues to be one of Guildford’s most iconic landmarks.

From the Prep School onwards, we foster an academic boldness and encourage curiosity and creativity – an insistence on how to think, not what to think. This is at the very heart of the RGS ethos. Our 500-year tradition and heritage, impressive as it is, is nothing if not a catapult for innovation and modern-mindedness.
My vision for the future of the RGS remains loyal to the established aims of our School; academic excellence, co-curricular opportunity, personal development and service to others.
In exceptional circumstances (such as current school closure) and on an individual basis, we may be able to consider intake into Years 11 and 13. The assessments for 11+ include: A confidential reference from their current headteacher.
