The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) [a] is a public university in Malaysia. Headquartered in Gombak, Selangor, IIUM has six other campuses all over Malaysia: two medical-centric campuses and a Centre for Foundation Studies in Gambang, Pahang, two city campuses in Kuala Lumpur, and a language and tourism campus in Pagoh, Johor.

The idea of an International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) was inspired by Za’aba (Zainal Abidin bin Ahmad, 16 September 1895 – 23 October 1973), way back in 1917. Six decades later it was translated into recommendations at the First World Conference on Muslim Education held in Makkah, 1977.

The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) was established on 20 May 1983 by the Government of Malaysia. The philosophy of IIUM was inspired by the outcomes of the 1977 First Conference on Muslim Education in Makkah.
