Dubai Creek (Arabic: خور دبي, romanized: Khūr Dubay) has been described as a natural saltwater creek, tidal inlet, and watercourse or waterway in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). It extends about 9 miles (14 km) inwards and forms a natural port that has traditionally been used for trade and transport. [ 1 ]
- 6.30am: Breaking dawn in Deira. Start off your morning at the the saltwater inlet that flows through some of the city's most storied neighbourhoods. For Instagram-worthy views, we recommend heading out at dawn towards the Deira abra station, which is a short walk from the Gold Souk metro stop.
- 8am: Going for gold and Arabian finds. Deira's traditional souks that specialise in gold, perfume and spices open between 7:30am and 9am, so there's plenty to explore right where you are.
- 10am: Cross the Creek to Bur Dubai. You could spend a whole, happy day right where you are. But if you’re keen to continue experiencing creekside haunts, make your way back to the waterfront and catch a ride on a traditional abra boat to the Bur Dubai district on the other side of the Creek – the short one-way trip costs just AED1!
- 10:30: Breakfast at Al Seef. Once you alight at the Bur Dubai abra station, hail a taxi and head east to the lifestyle destination Al Seef. Hugging 1.8km of Dubai Creek’s shoreline, Al Seef celebrates the nation's heritage with plenty of traditional architecture, including stately wind towers and sandstone buildings.
Dubai Creek is the historic commercial hub of the city, separating Deira and Bur Dubai. Explore the creek on a traditional abra boat ride, or enjoy a dhow cruise dinner, and see nearby attractions like the Gold Souk and the Spice Souk.

The Old Souks
Bargain, anyone? Gold, spice or textiles – take your pick. One of the best things to do at Dubai Creek has to be checking out the souks. Baskin-Robbins
This popular and colourful US ice cream chain has set up shop in Al Seef’s old quarter, offering its usual sweet-tooth treats by Dubai Creek. You’ll have to keep an eye out for it, though, its shop-front is demi-disguised to suit its locale, which gives this branch a unique look compared to the rest of the modern franchise across the city. Bikanervala
If continental European sweets aren’t quite what you’re in the mood for, perhaps this Indian quick eats and candies will be? Cielo Sky Lounge
For views across Dubai Creek and out to the ever-changing Dubai skyline, it’s still hard to beat Cielo Sky Lounge, and this al fresco spot nails it.
