8. A "job role" is a description of what a person does. A "job title" is a convenient name for a role. For example: At my last job, my role was to write code that helped us be sure that our product worked as well as we thought it did. My title was Software Engineer, because it's (as noted in the comments on your post) short and to the point.
Aug 2, 2013 · My comment in the previous thread sums it up: the rôle of rôle is now being played by role. The plain English spelling has entirely supplanted the old spelling in modern usage; I wouldn't be at all surprised if more than ninety percent of the occurrences of rôle in the past fifty years were in discussions of whether to use rôle or role when writing.
Jun 4, 2021 · If a person plays a president in a play when he leaves the theater, he is an ordinary person. Why the comparison has arisen: role on paper—role/part in life. "To play a role/part" is essentially just "to be a part of something and thus to make an impact". However, "to play" is not to be yourself, not to be real. I cannot understand this. –

"To take a role" is a neutral expression, which can be used in a variety of ways but usually serves as a denotation that implies nothing else. It doesn't seem like what you're looking for. "To take over a role" is, as you said, to take a role that was previously occupied by somebody else, which seems to be what you're looking for, as your colleague "replaced" another worker, so he "took over" that worker's role.

Aug 18, 2022 · X also plays a role of (job-function). My opinion is that "plays a role as" indicates a greater impact on the role and the company, whereas "plays a role of" is more "does the job". My old dictionary of English language haven't helped and a google search says the "of"-use is the most common, but is also mostly used differently than what I propose.

In this case, the past tense of cast is being used to say that he has already been assigned the roll in the past. Therefore, this word casted is okay to use in this scenario.
