  2. Non-religious has a meaning of "not relating to religion", it can be both person or topic that have nothing to do with the religion. But whereas "non-religious" is a negation of a positive attribute, "irreligious" is an affirmation of the negative attribute, which is a bit more forceful, in my opinion (it's a bit of alternative linguistics but I have such an impression upon hearing those words).

"Pray" has, in our secular society, taken on a non-religious meaning as well as its original. : to speak to God especially in order to give thanks or to ask for something: to hope or wish very much for something to happen

  9. Using agnostic as a response is a clever way to express non-commital indifference. The religious undertone gives it power on non-religious subjects in my view. I noticed this usage on a news show and was impressed with the way it got my attention.

The requirements for membership, of course, vary considerably, but for the most part, simply attending services at a church does not make one a parishioner or congregant of that church any more than visiting a country makes one a citizen of it.
