Nov 30, 2015 · The standard specifically states that the courtyard is the starting point for the minimum area for the component, and there may be a manufacturing allowance that is dependent on factors that are not part of the standard. I've linked the working draft standard (2008) above, direct from the ipc.org website.
Jul 5, 2023 · The "courtyard" is typically a magenta/purple/pink color in KiCAD, and is the X-Y profile of the device. So if this were say a horizontal potentiometer, the courtyard would show the base, screw area, and the entire shaft. Courtyards are used to make sure parts will fit together mechanically. They are usually slightly oversized of the actual parts.
Dec 28, 2020 · The template designers probably imported/converted the footprint for the screws or were too lazy to draw a courtyard. In your case, it does not hurt if the screws have no courtyard defined, since you’ll know the size of the screw by head. If this is your final design, and the errors only are for the screws, you can safely turn the checkmark off.

I don't know how exactly CMs (Contract Manufacturers) use them, but they are exported in the ODB++ output (which CMs may use), or the raw EDA file (PcbDoc) of course (which is becoming a more common exchange format these days, interestingly enough).

Supply voltages are obviously DC voltages, so their letters must be in upper case. The standard defines 11 suffix (letter)s. These are: E, e for Emitter; B, b for Base; C, c for Collector
