Computational and Theoretical Chemistry. Our Department has a long tradition in computational and theoretical chemistry. The first HF calculation of a polyatomic molecule (water) was completed by Frank Ellison in ~4 years using a punch-card computer for his PhD in the 1950s.
Our Department features six research groups in Computational and Theoretical Chemistry that are involved in a diverse range of research topics including nanomaterials, biological processes, organic reaction mechanisms, and the electronic and optical properties of molecules and clusters.
The Department of Chemistry provides exceptional training in state-of-the-art chemistry that leads to successful careers in industry, teaching and research. Here is a look at the interdisciplinary research areas: Chemical Biology. Computational & Theoretical.
