On the top bar of Microsoft WOrd, with the document open, do you see 'Compatibility Mode'. If you do, re-save the document and make sure the 'Save as Type drop down is set to 'Word Document .docx' Then open the new .docx document and see if it is editable . . .

Jul 31, 2024 · Whenever I open a saved Word document, all I get is a blue ribbon with 3 options: File, Tools, View. I cannot edit this document in any way. I can copy the document and open a new Word document. The new word document will allow me to edit-will have all the normal functions on the ribbon-home, review, layout, insert, etc., etc. Then I can edit.
Just as of today (8/10/21), the Comment feature in my Word 365 is no longer working properly. I can create a new comment, but I can't edit or delete it. The usual three dots in the corner are no longer there. All it lets me do is Reply or Resolve. This happens both with new documents and with old documents and comments that were working fine ...
Sep 7, 2010 · First, if this only occurs within a single document, the Office button, Prepare menu item has a Mark as Final option which marks the current document as Read Only. If this is the case, a small icon to the right of the word count in the status bar will produce "Marked as Final" when hovered over.
