Susanna Gregory is the pseudonym of Elizabeth Cruwys, a Cambridge academic who was previously a coroner's officer. She writes detective fiction, and is noted for her series of mediaeval mysteries featuring Matthew Bartholomew, a teacher of medicine and investigator of murders in 14th-century Cambridge.
Susanna now lives in a hamlet in southwest Wales with her husband Beau Riffenburgh, who is also a writer, and, under the pseudonym Simon Beaufort, the two have published the Geoffrey Mappestone series of medieval mysteries, the Alexander Lonsdale mysteries that take place in Victorian London, and several stand-alone thrillers.

We married him to a woman named Herleve, and gave them four sons (Walter, Stephen, Henry and Geoffrey) and two daughters (Joan and Enide).
Susanna Gregory was a police officer in Leeds before taking up an academic career. She has served as an environmental consultant, doing fieldwork with whales, seals and walruses during seventeen field seasons in the polar regions, and has taught comparative anatomy and biological anthropology.
