Ranma ½ (Japanese: らんま 1 2 , Hepburn: Ranma Nibun-no-Ichi, pronounced Ranma One-Half in English) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi. It was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Sunday from August 1987 to March 1996, with the chapters collected in 38 tankōbon volumes by Shogakukan.
Ranma ½ (らんま½, Ranma Nibun-no-Ichi, pronounced Ranma One-Half in English) is a Japanese manga series created by Rumiko Takahashi. It began publication in September 1987, appearing in Shōnen Sunday after the ending of Rumiko Takahashi's previous major work, Urusei Yatsura.

History
Ranma was born approximately sixteen years before the start of the series as the first and only child of Genma Saotome and Nodoka Saotome. Ranma was taken from his home by his father when approximately 2 years old to begin a 13-14-year training trip to perfect his skills in the martial arts. Genma was only able to convince his wife to let them go by promising him to raise his son as a "man among men", with the promise of Nodoka inflicting seppuku upon the two of them should he fail in any way...
