Dec 2, 2007 · I agree with Dimcl. Not yet means not now but when? Not just yet means not now but very soon. Also, not yet could mean, I haven't done it up to this point and I may never do it. (Like when I ask my husband if he has taken out the trash and he says, "not yet".) Not just yet implies that it will get done soon.
Not yet [participle] and still not or still haven't [participle]. These are adverbs. The problem with phrasing like this: "Futuristic skyscrapers are not yet Europe." is that there is no verb for the "not yet" to qualify. Futuristic skyscrapers are not yet Europe. [doesn't have semantic meaning] Futuristic skyscrapers have not yet sprung up in ...
Aug 9, 2014 · "Not yet/ Not quite yet." Are they interchangeable in this context? Could "not quite yet" mean that the person has almost finished doing his/ her homework? Here is another example: Two people want to go out, one asks the other:"Are you ready?", the other person replies "not quite yet" (not yet, but I am almost ready?)
yet: The team has not yet won a game. = The team has not won a game yet. = The team has yet to win a game. (Merriam-Webster’s) I understand what meaning the structure above has. But I’m wondering if the last sentence, The team has yet to win a game, could be interpreted as another meaning. Let’s suppose a soccer team that has won a game ...
Feb 24, 2010 · I don't like "as of yet". The "of" is redundant and I tell my students not to use it. There is nothing wrong with "as yet" and "not as yet" or just "yet" and "not yet". To use the previous responder's example: He has not yet turned in his portfolio. He has not turned in his portfolio yet. Has he turned in his portfolio yet? No. Not yet. No. Not ...
Nov 10, 2017 · He replied: "not yet". I expected "Not now" Are now and yet same things? I dont think so. What is difference between now and yet? As far as I think Yet means until now. And now is the present time. So he used the wrong word in my opinion - am I correct?
May 27, 2010 · Dear Experts, Can we use the phrase like, It is yet to be done Instead of It is not done yet. I am a travel agent and once I gave a booking to an agent. It was about 10 or 12 days and I inquired for trip and he...
Apr 27, 2021 · Have yet to do sounds a bit more formal. Perhaps there's also a greater idea that something may not happen even though it would be nice (or even not so nice) if it did. They've won the Football League Cup, but they've yet to win the Football Association Cup. You're not saying they're going to win the FA Cup. It's just something they haven't done.
Feb 17, 2022 · I disagree with definition 14 of still in the WR dictionary. When yet is a coordinating conjunction, it means "but still", but still by itself is an adverb, like nevertheless.
Oct 31, 2010 · Either is fine. Maybe there is just slightly more emphasis on the "yet" in the first sentence and on the "arranged" in the second, but it's a very marginal difference. It couldn't start the sentence here, but I know of no other rule for positioning "yet".
