  2. The Mool Mantar, the first verse of Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee describes God. It states God is ‘ajoonee’ (unborn) and ‘saibhun’ (self-existent). The Mool Mantr is the yardstick of Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee and is the foundation of Sikhi. Mool Mantar also states that “God always was, always is and always wil be.”

  4. From the philosophical stand-point, the contribution of Sikhi may be called Naam Marg. Guru Nanak Sahib Ji emphasized the need for man’s devotion to the Timeless Almighty. He illustrates the attributes of God in the revealed “Mool-Mantar”. He asks man to dedicate himself, day and night to the remembrance of God and His Name.

  5. The last thing the Panth should be divided on is Gurbani, whether it is in Mool Mantar or Rehraas. Far too many youth who just have devotion to read more Bani are being misled to think that only the longer version of Rehraas with extra Shabads and Dohiras is acceptable.

  7. In the Mool Mantar, the initial invocation to God in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, it says: ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

  8. The basic and unalterable concept of Sikhi, as opposed to that of Brahminism, is that God does not incarnate. This concept is an integral element of the Mool Mantar revealed by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the very beginning of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This concept is the corner-stone of Sikh theology. So much so, that the Guru Ji says:

  9. [Note : In Jap Ji Sahib, “Jap” has four double dandees (|| ਜਪੁ||) which clearly separates it from the Mool Mantar and defines Jap as a title of the Bani. Afterwards comes “Aad Sach” which is a Salok (couplet). This is very similar to one of the Saloks in Sukhmani Sahib. The Salok is indicated through the numbering of “||1||”.
