Jun 19, 2024 · All pregnant women are eligible for 26 weeks of maternity leave for the first and second child, out of which they can take a maximum of 8 weeks’ leave before their expected delivery date. For the third and subsequent child, mothers are eligible for 12 weeks of maternity leave.

3.2 Casual Leave/Restricted Holidays/Compensatory Off/Special Casual Leave is governed by executive instructions issued by the Government from time to time. Main features of these absences are discussed below:
CCS (LEAVE) RULES Maternity Leave – 1. Admissible to married/unmarried female GS during – (a)pregnancy: 180 days from 01.09.2008 – Admissible only to employees with less than two surviving children. (b)Miscarriage/Abortion: Total of 45 days in the entire service irrespective of number of children.
Casual Leave. Concept: A concession to Govt. Servant in special circumstances to be absent from duty for a short period. Authority: Instructions 1 to 6, Annexure VII. ( Executive instructions regarding Casual Leave) of A .P . Fundamental & Subsidiary Rules vide Ruling 4 of FR 85.
Maternity Leave: (1) A female Government servant (including an apprentice) with less than two surviving children may be granted maternity leave by an authority competent to grant leave for a period of 1 [180 days] from the date of its commencement.

General Principles. Leave cannot be claimed as a matter of right. The leave sanctioning authority may refuse or revoke leave of any kind but cannot alter the kind of leave due and applied for. Earned leave should not be ordinarily denied during the last ten year of service.
