If you want a totally silent (apart from malware warnings) free AV, consider Bitdefender Antivirus Free. It's a set and forget AV no popups, no settings just very effective malware and browsing protection.

Stay away from third party antivirus software, whose fame, growth and finances benefit from and depend on the existence and proliferation of viruses/malware. Short answer : no. Jan 14, 2023 · Avast/AVG is a good AV in terms of protection, but I'd suggest going for Kaspersky or Bitdefender instead. avast/avg: extremely high protection rates, some of the best i've ever seen. shady data practices and the programs can be slow and clunky. very invasive ads and scare tactics.
Sep 16, 2021 · Any kind of avast is bad. Avoid the following: AVG TotalAV Avast Mcafee. I advise bitdefender or Kaspersky. Avast did lose its credit after selling users' data. Bitdefender/ Kaspersky are the two most popular recommendations, while Trend Micro/ Webroot will be other 2 good options tho not many people talking about.

Personally it's saved me from a few malicious websites when I've gone looking for things I need, and there's 0 pop ups, ever. Definitely way better than Advanced Systemcare (fuck you iObit), and while Windows Defender works alright, I just forget it ...
May 4, 2022 · Avast/AVG were previously exposed as selling user data, and they continue to include scareware-esque 'upselling' spam in their notifications and even scan results. It is safe, but there are much better alternatives, If you are looking for more protection features though, Avast One has a lot of them open for free.

It's likely done, so it gets picked up in web searches. Avast One is a noticeable upgrade over Avast Antivirus Free, with much stronger malware protection, far fewer popups and works without an account.

The privacy protection features give an extra layer of security, and system optimization keeps my PC running smoothly. Avast is a solid antivirus solution in my experience.
