Guest posts (or guest posting) is publishing and article on someone else’s website. It’s that simple. And people do this so they can get more brand awareness and traffic back to their own website (also known as referral traffic).
- Get organized. The first thing I like to do is create a spreadsheet to keep track of my guest posting efforts. Yours might look a little different depending on the tools you use or any other specific information you need to track, but here are the columns I have
- Find guest blogging opportunities. Once you have a place to keep your data organized, start searching for websites in your niche that accept guest posts.
- Send your pitch. A surefire way to get a guest post rejected is to send the same pitch to every outlet. Editors from big publications might receive hundreds of pitches each week, so if you send a generic guest post pitch, chances are they'll hit that delete button right away.
- Send a follow-up email. Most guest pitches get ignored—that's just how the cookie crumbles. So don't get discouraged if you send 50 guest post pitches and only hear back from 10—all of which are rejections.

- Write for Their Audience. I said this before, but it’s important enough for me to say again: know who the blogger’s target audience is and write directly to them.
- Align with Their Brand. Every Author has a brand. Your brand tells readers, “Here’s what I have to offer, and here’s how it can help you.” In order to create the strongest brand possible, you need to know who your audience is, what your message is, and what you have expertise in—all the things that went into your outreach message!
- Align with Their Blog Format. Any guest post you write should align with the blog’s typical format. In some cases, the site owners will give you explicit guest posting guidelines.
- Provide Actionable Content. Don’t just give readers the 10,000-foot view of your topic. Give them something that’s actually tangible and actionable. Give them something they can walk away from the article with and do.
