  2. If you have Acrobat X, what you want to use to delete a bit of text is the Edit Text Tool in the Tools panel under the Content Pane. Keep in mind this is a touch-up type tool ( that used to be its name in a previous version, Touchup Tool) so it is not intended for major editing jobs like removing whole paragraphs that will alter the layout significantly.

  5. For Acrobat X: Tools > Protection > Remove Hidden Information. In the Remove Hidden Information pane click the "Remove" button. If the tick is present adjacent to the Hidden Text entry then the OCR output is removed. For Acrobat 9: Document > Examine Document. In the Examine Document pane click the "Remove" button.

  6. The best way to make big changes (and removing a line is a big change), is to go back to the original document, make the change there and then export the document to PDF again.   8. In Acrobat XI, you would have access to a find&replace feature, that would take care of the spaces around your replacements. It would not reflow any text like e.g. MS Word would, but you would not end up with these big gaps in your file. Also, the export to Word is much improved in Acrobat XI over Acrobat 9.
